Silchar, June 8: T T Daulagopu, SDO (Civil), along with Food and Civil Supply inspector, Dilip Roy, conducted a surprise inspection in the fair price shops of Binnakandi area under Lakhipur sub-division recently. They checked documents of the fair price shops during which they found many anomalies and subsequently issued show cause notices to 20 fair price shop owners.
It has been alleged that the fair price shop owners are taking away the benefits of the system by creating a syndicate of political agents of ruling party and their henchmen. Under the very tutelage of state officials, the allotments of rice for APL, BPL and Antodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) are being looted. The cooperative societies in hands and gloves with fair price shoppers are selling the rice, flour and kerosene oil in black markets.
The people of the area pointed out that only about half of target groups get BPL and AAY rice. The rice under the schemes is being supplied for 7 to 8 months in a year and the consumers are also cheated in respect of price, weight and quantity. Even kerosene oil meant for the common people under free market is sold for 3 to 4 months in a year. In this way, lakhs of litres of kerosene oil are black–marketed. The administration has assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted regarding the matter and those found guilty will be punished as per the law. (Source:SentinelAssam)
