MYFA Launches Foot March for Recognition of Manipuri Language as Official Language of Assam

Lakhipuronline Digital Desk : On March 12th 2023, Manipuri youths Front of Assam (MYFA) launched a foot march titled “Mitkap thoklasi eikhoi” (Jago Manipuri and Manipuri Muslims Jago) in Chandrapur Cachar, Assam. The march was flagged off by Keisam Bidyapati Singha and will cover the entire Cachar district and seven constituencies of Manipuri and Manipuri Muslim villages.

In a speech at the event, MYFA Chief Advisor Seram Herajit stated that the march was a long-standing demand to recognize Manipuri Language as an associate official language of Assam. He emphasized that Manipuri people are indigenous to Assam and have the right to respect and protection of their democratic rights. 

The foot march includes door-to-door campaigning and is led by MYFA President Seram Herajit, Secretary General Thangjam Brojen, Vice President Tampakmayum Salaw uddin, Joint Secretary Tampakmayum Rehan Uddin, and members Wahengbam Suren, M. Subir, Meira Paibi Beni Mishra, Ema Sanathoi, Sangita Begun, and Jubeda Begum.
This initiative by MYFA aims to raise awareness about the Manipuri community’s demands and garner support from the people of Assam.
