Lakhipuronline Digital Desk : The World Meetei Council (WMC) conferred its prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ on two distinguished Meetei doctors for their outstanding services.
In its annual general conference held in Cachar, Assam on February 17, WMC felicitated UK-based Dr Irengbam Mohendro Singh and US-based Dr Waikhom Sanahanbi Devi.
Dr Singh, a renowned medical professional in the UK, accepted the award via video conference. He expressed gratitude to WMC for recognising his work.
Dr Devi was honoured for her lifetime of service in the field of Emergency Medicine in the USA.
Addressing the conference, WMC Chairman Heigrujam Nabashyam emphasised the need to include Meeteis in the ST list of India. He said the upcoming delimitation exercise in 2026 could impact Meeteis socio-politically.
He urged the Manipur CM to send the pending Ethnography and socio-economic reports to the centre without delay.
The conference concluded with members observing two minutes’ silence for victims of violence in the state.
The annual awards recognise outstanding Meeteis working to serve the community around the world.
