GUWAHATI, March 28: State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that 28,000 contractual teachers wouldbe appointed in both lower and upper primary schools of the State under the Sarba Siksha Abhijan (SSA). Though the first merit list of the candidates who applied was supposed to be published on March 31, the minister today said that the revised list would be published only by April 21.
Talking to mediapersons in the city today, Sarma said that the decision to postpone the publication of the merit list was taken after certain anomalies were detected in the online form application system. "Several candidates were not able to see the selection list in the web portal while several others could not manage to choose the preferred district of work. Since we want to make the entire teacher selection process transparent, we want to take some time to publish the finalmerit list. The first provisional merit list had already been published on March 26 last and thesecond provisional list will be published by March 31," he said. The minister said that application forms for the contractual posts could also be collected and submitted by hand to the SSA office in the city. "The last date for submission of forms has been extended to April 10," he said.
Dwelling on the recent TET examination in the State, Sarma said that almost all the 52,000 candidates who cleared the examination would get government jobs. "Around 95,000 teachers are currently required in the State. So we will be recruiting teachers in a phased manner from now on," the minister said, and added, "We will release advertisements for 15,000 permanent teachers after the current selection process is over." The minister added that from 2014 onwards, the minimum educational qualification for upperprimary teachers post would be a Bachelor's in Education degree while a Diploma in Education would be required to apply for posts in lower primary schools.
