SILCHAR, May 23: Silchar failed to keepup its last year's performance in the Higher Secondary examinations in which three students – two from Science stream and one from Commerce stream – from the town could make it to the top ten. Last year,seven students from the town had gotranks, including the first position. A student from Karimganj made it to themerit list in Science stream this year. Private institutes and junior colleges, as usual, outclassed the government colleges this year also.
Pratik Somani of Ramanuj Gupta Junior College stood sixth in science stream scoring 450 marks, while VivekJain Surana of Holy Cross School got the ninth rank. Vivek secured 446 marks. Twenty-three students of Holy Cross School had appeared in the science section and all of them secured first division with 59 letters. Devadatta Dey of the school secured the highest mark (91 per cent) in Statistics in the State.
Ramanuj Gupta Junior College had surprised everyone last year by securing seven ranks in the Science stream. However, this time around, only Pratik Somani could secured a place. The overall result of the college,however, was quite satisfactory. Of the 259 students who had appeared in Science section from the college, 240 came out successful – 212 got first division, 28 got second division and nine got third division. The total number of letters from the college was 589 and 108 students got star marks.
In Commerce stream too, Ramanuj Gupta Junior College did a commendable job with 56 out 69 students coming out successful – 37 in first division, 23 in second division and six in third division. In Arts section, of the 93 students who had appeared from Ramanuj Gupta Junior College, 90 came out with flying colours. While 48 students secured first division, 31 got second and 11 got third division.
Kishan Sen Laskar of Karimganj College stood ninth in the Science stream securing 464 marks (89.2 per cent).
In Commerce stream, Bikash Kumar Choraria of Vivekananda Junior College ranked 10th in the merit list.
In Hailakandi, out of 212 students in Science stream, 153 came out successful – 60 in first division, 73 in second division and 20 in third division. In Arts stream, there were altogether 3,713 students out of which 2,162 came out successful – 97 in first division, 439 in second divisionand 1,626 in third division. On the other hand, in Commerce stream, 157 out 201 students passed – 24 in first division, 53 in second division and 80 in third division. Mandakini Sinha of Lala Rural College topped in MIL (Manipuri) with 82 per cent. (SentinelAssam)
