Smash Season-1: A Historic Milestone in Assam University Silchar’s Sporting Legacy

Assam University Badminton Club (AUBC) made history by successfully hosting Smash Season-1, the first-ever Open Prize Money Badminton Tournament at Assam University Silchar from March 22 to 24, 2025. The tournament, held at Netaji Mukta Mancha, saw enthusiastic participation from 153 players, including international, national, state, and district-level athletes. This groundbreaking event not only showcased exceptional sporting talent but also set a strong foundation for future badminton tournaments at the university.
Grand Inauguration
The event was inaugurated by Prof. M. Tineshowri Devi, Director of the Assam University Sports Board, in the esteemed presence of Shri Rahul Dey (DSA Badminton Coach) and Shri Suman Gupta (Branch Manager, UCO Bank). The competition featured eight competitive categories, with the Men’s Open Doubles and Under-15 Boys Singles attracting the highest number of participants. The enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed by the athletes made the event a thrilling spectacle, drawing in an eager crowd of students, faculty, and sports enthusiasts.

Thrilling Finale & Prize Distribution
The grand finale and prize distribution ceremony were graced by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, along with distinguished guests, faculty, and university officials. Dr. Lalzo Thangjhom (President, AUBC) extended a warm welcome to the gathering, followed by a tournament highlight presentation by Shri K. Anand Kr Singha (General Secretary, AUBC). The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Saurav Dey (Vice President, AUBC).
Several key officials and members of AUBC, including Shri Anupam Dey (Treasurer), Shri Manjit Singha (Joint Treasurer), H. Nishan Singha (Joint Secretary), Harshita Thakuria (Media & Publicity Coordinator), Shri Rajiv Singha, Shri Amit Uraon, as well as research scholars, students, staff, and external members, were present during the closing ceremony and prize distribution. Their collective efforts and dedication played a crucial role in ensuring the seamless execution of the tournament.
