Significantly, Assamese medium students competed well with students of English medium schools. In particular, students of Assamese medium Sankardev Vidya Niketans and Jatiya Vidyalayas in different parts of the State including Guwahati performed creditably with high marks.
As many as seven students were placed in the top three ranks. Swagat Gogoi of St Xavier’s School, Dibrugarh and Tridip Bora of Nagaon Govt. Boys HS School jointly took the second rank with 588 marks each.
Bhargav Kashyap and Bikramjit Deuri of Sankardev Vidya Niketan, Barpeta, Elius Bokhtier of Faringapara High School, Goalpara, Samarjyoti Kalita of Sankardev Sishu Niketan, Rangia and Jyotirmoy Dutta of Udbastu High School, Bihupuria all stood third by scoring 586 marks each.

In terms of pass percentage, this year’s results are the second best after 1986. The 2013 HSLC results remain the best till date, with a pass percentage of 70.71.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Agriculture minister and AGP president Atul Bora, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and the All Assam Students Union (AASU) have congratulated the successful students in this year’s HSLC exams.
The Chief Minister had words of consolation for those who did not make the cut. “Students who failed to clear the examination must not lose heart. They must try again resolutely,” he exhorted.
The AASU will hold a programme in Guwahati on June 8 to felicitate toppers of the HSLC, HM and HS (all streams) examinations. The results for all streams of the Higher Secondary (HS) examinations will be announced on June 2.
The HSLC examination this year was dogged by controversy when several thousand answer scripts were gutted in a major fire that broke out in an evaluation centre in Jorhat on March 3. An embarrassed Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) had to hold re-examination for the affected students while the State government ordered a CID inquiry into the incident. Despite this, the timely declaration of HSLC results has drawn kudos for the embattled SEBA.
