Manipuri historian felicitated by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Assam (MSPA)

Silchar, June 4: The Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Assam (MSPA), Cachar District Committee, felicitated the eminent Manipuri historian and researcher K Babu Singha at his residence of Khelma in Ramnagar, 5 km from here, recently. The historian, who was born on July 12, 1933, in Khelma, worked as a clerk in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar from1956 to 1992. He was the founder president of the Ramnagar branch of MSPA and also the president of Cachar District Committee.
K Babu Singha has collected and compiled relevant information and valuable documents regarding the history of Manipuri society, especially of those living in Barak Valley. He has compiled intricate details of the innumerable achievers of the Manipuri community. This includes the profiles of the first IAS officer in the community, doctor, engineer, advocate and freedom fighter. Besides, he has also made a profile of the first woman post graduate and graduate, as well as PhD. He is also credited with the compilation of details of thousands of poems, short stories, novels and other literary works written in Manipuri.
On this occasion, M Surjyokumar Singha, educationist and vice-president of MSPA, Cachar District Committee, along with other members presented K Babu Singha with a citation and a flower bouquet. M Shanti Kumar Singha in his welcome address said, “Manipuris of the valley consider K Babu Singha as an encyclopedia of their society.” L Khanglemba Singha, Biren Singha, Bhuban Singha and others who spoke on the occasion prayed for K Babu Singha’s wellbeing and wished him a healthy and long life.
After being felicitated, K Babu Singha said, “Purity, patience and perseverance are the pillars of success.” He did not miss to express his anguish at the poor conditions of the Manipuri medium schools and also of the Manipuri subject teachers. He requested the MSPA to come forward and raise their voice against the removal of Manipuri subject teachers from many government run schools.
