SILCHAR, Nov 10: The 19th Silchar Book Fair was inaugurated today by distinguished Islamic scholar Amir-e-Shariat Maulana Taibur Rahman Barbhuiya at Bipin Chandra Paul ground today in the presence of educationists, litterateurs and book lovers. Maulana Taibur Rahman addressing the enlightened assembly laid stress on reading good books for enrichment of mind. He was of the opinion that for better appreciation of one’s mother tongue, books of the language alone could provide the necessary food for thought. “Books have to be read not only to educate oneself but also for entertainment”, he pointed out.
Others who addressed the assembly included two writers from Bangladesh- Mainul Haque Choudhury and Wajid Mamud Fazal- as well as eminent personalities of Barak Valley. The inaugural function was presided over by Dr Jahar Kanti Sen, former HoD of English, Guru Charan College. Paritosh Paul Choudhury, general secretary of the book fair, said in all 40 book stalls from Kolkata, Delhi, Agartala and Barak Valley have participated in the week-long fair. He expressed the hope that the book lovers in general would get the opportunity to have books of their choice and understanding.”
