SILCHAR, Sept 10: Expressing doubt over the success of the much-hyped meeting convened by DoNER Minister BK Handique to review the jinxed Lumding-Silchar broadgauge national project, All Barak Youth Students’ Association has threatened a mass agitation in Delhi if the work for gauge conversion does not start within 15 days.
ABYSA chief convener Baharul Islam Barbhuiya said that it was really a surprising thing that neither Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee nor her deputies joined the meeting. It is to be noted that ABYSA staged a dharna in front of DRM office of the NF Railway in Lumding on the eve of the Tuesday meeting and 40 members of the association were arrested by Lumding police for violating 144 CrPC. They were later released and ABYSA handed over a memorandum to Handique.
Baharul, after reaching Silchar on Wednesday night, branded the meeting as a mere farce as well as another instance of neglect towards Barak Valley. He suspected that, the State government was reluctant about Banerjee’s presence in the meeting. (Source – Sentinelassam)
