Lakhipuronline Digital Desk : The Manipuri community of Sonai is gearing up to ensure their representation in the Assam Legislative Assembly in the 2026 elections. On Sunday, a meeting was held at a local residence in Sonai, where youth from various areas gathered to discuss their political stance. The meeting was presided over by W. Nilu Singha.

Speakers from the event were Manikumar Singha, Lakhikanta Singha, Nandababu Singha, Ton Singha, and Sarat Singha, among others. They discussed how, throughout the years, there has not been a single Manipuri representation in Assam’s 126 Assembly constituencies, which had led to their socio-economic and political marginalization.

Emphasis was made in electing the representative of the Sonai constituency from Manipuri in the forthcoming 2026 elections. Urging the party to make its candidate out of Dr. M. Shanti kumar Singha as they have influence within the community.

Representatives from 16 villages in Sonai attended the meeting, voting unanimously to back the nomination call for Dr. Shanti kumar Singha. They called upon the people of Sonai to support his nomination and see him win in the forthcoming elections.
