Assam Government Announces Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships for SC and OBC Students

In a major move to support the educational advancement of students from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities in Assam, the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes has announced scholarships for the academic year 2024-25.

The scholarship schemes on offer are:

1. Pre-Matric Scholarship (Class IX and X)
2. Post-Matric Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria:

– Only students belonging to the SC and OBC communities in Assam are eligible to apply. A valid caste certificate issued by the District Commissioner’s office is mandatory.
– The annual parental/family income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakhs. The income certificate must be obtained from the Circle Officer.

Application Process:

– Students must first register themselves on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) through the “NSP OTR” app available on Google Play Store. Face authentication is required to generate the One Time Registration (OTR) number.
– Aadhaar and a registered mobile number are necessary for the OTR process. For minor applicants, the parent’s Aadhaar will be needed.
– Applicants must provide active bank account details seeded with Aadhaar, as the scholarship amount will be disbursed directly into the accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer.

Important Dates:

– The application window for both pre-matric and post-matric scholarships will open on July 23, 2024.

– Last date for student application submission:
  – Pre-Matric Scholarship (Class IX and X): August 31, 2024
  – Post-Matric Scholarship: October 31, 2024

– Institute-level verification must be completed by:
  – Pre-Matric Scholarship: August 31, 2024
  – Post-Matric Scholarship: October 31, 2024
