SILCHAR, Jan 11: A new programme christened as BASE (Bosco Academy for Skills and Employment) was heralded today at Don Bosco here located at Ramnagar in a simple function that was attended by the teachers, students and distinguished invitees. After words of welcome from Brother Reggie, and a song “build a better world” was sung by students.
Father Sebastian Pelatty, director-cum-principal, speaking about the programme, said: “It is under Swarnajayati Gram Swarojgar Yojana Special Project. It is a joint project under Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, and Don Bosco Tech, the National Network of all Don Bosco Technical Schools.”
Talking on the programme, Mr Ghansham, coordinator, pointed out that the programme is basically meant for giving opportunities to the rural BPL candidates which will help them to get an entry level job. “It is a three-month-long programme and candidates willing to undertake it must maintain 85% attendance in the course,” he said, and advised the candidates not to skip class on any day since it would not help them avail its proper benefit. For admission to this programme, a candidate will have to deposit Rs 500 as fees. They will be provided free food, lodging and uniform.
Assam is one of the four States selected by the Union Ministry of Rural Development for this project. Don Bosco is the only educational institution which has been covered under this network. This programme is going to be conducted from today, said Ghansham. With the vote of thanks from Father Ignatius, the programme concluded. (Sentinelassam)
