SILCHAR, Sept 1: Criticizing the AGP for its indifferent attitude in installing a non-Congress Government in Assam, the BJP State president Ranjit Dutta today openly declared that his party would field candidates at least in 80 Assembly segments. Addressing a workers’ meet here in Silchar, Dutta, in his maiden visit to the Barak Valley after assuming the charge of State president, said that the BJP was keen to see a non-Congress Government in the State and thus they wanted to extend the alliance, with the AGP, that they made prior to last year’s Lok Sabha election, to the next Assembly poll. But for reasons best known to the AGP, they had yet to respond to BJP’s gesture positively. Dutta, however, confidently said that, AGP or no AGP the saffron party would definitely make its presence felt at least in 100 Assembly segments. Dutta made it clear that the BJP was ideologically committed to wipe out the stigma of ‘D’ voters from the back of the Bengali Hindus. As he said, Bengali Hindu, who entered into India from East Pakistan of subsequent Bangladesh could never be termed as infiltrators as they ought to be trusted as refugees. He however firmly stated that Muslims who came to India after 1971, had to be deported. Dutta openly admitted that the four party MLAs Rumi Nath, Kartik Sena Sinha, Abhijit Hazarika and Sambhu Singh Mallah had made the party shamelessly embarrassed as they violated the party whip to vote for Congress candidates in the recent Rajya Sabha election. Dutta categorically said that doors of BJP were closed forever for these four MLAs who had been expelled form the party. Dutta’s anguish could be gauged as he said, “I hate to talk about them”. Lambasting the State Government for its failure in protecting its own border from the neighbouring States, Dutta said, how could the Congress Government protect the country from the neighbouring countries. Speaking on the occasion, MP Kabindra Purkayastha said, both Centre and State Government had no interest in expediting the much awaited Silchar-Lumding broad gauge and East-West corridor. Dholai MLA Parimal Suklabaidya said, almost 200 days were still left for the next Assembly election and the party should finalize its list of candidates within next 100 days so the candidates could exercise for public relation. Others who spoke in the meet included Sipra Gun, the national general secretary of the Mahila Morcha and Dilip Saikia, State general secretary. Ranjit Dutta addressed a workers’ meet in Hailakandi later in the evening. He would also visit Karimganj. On Thursday, Dutta would address a public rally in Katigorah. (The Sentinel)
