Silchar, December 31: In a bid to maintain law and order during the English New Year celebrations, the Cachar district police launched a large-scale operation across Silchar city on Tuesday evening. The operation, led by Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta, focused on key areas including the National Highway, Rangirkhari, Premtala, and Central Road.
As part of the drive, police took strict action against helmetless riders and collected fines from violators. Special measures were also undertaken to curb drug abuse, while breathalyzer tests were conducted on drivers to prevent drunk driving.
The initiative is in line with Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s campaign to raise awareness and prevent road accidents. The police department has intensified efforts to educate the public about road safety while ensuring compliance with traffic rules.
The Cachar police have assured that such operations will continue to safeguard citizens from accidents and other untoward incidents. On the occasion, they also extended New Year greetings to the residents of the district.
