SILCHAR, April 2: A cruiser while trying to go back for parking at Lakhipur town, 40 km from here, rammed through an auto rickshaw in the bazaar area. The impact was so high that the auto rickshaw with the driver and passengers was virtually pushed over the footpath. In the process due to the speed of the cruiser on back gear, the driver and the passengers inside along with the three pedestrians were injured. The injury of the driver and two passengers was critical.
They were identified as Gaimai Rongmei of Sabbaspur, Archana Das of Lakhipur and Uttam Roy also of Lakhipur, the auto driver. Four pedestrians who also sustained injury were admitted to Lakhipur civil hospital and released after first aid. The driver of the cruiser was actually the handyman of the vehicle who had taken control of the steering wheel and caused the mishap. After the incident, the handyman made his escape good. The driver was also on the run. Lakhipur police has taken up the case and launched operation to nab both of them. The three critically injured were rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where they were undergoing treatment. (Sentinelassam)
