SILCHAR, May 10: In the backdrop of Gauhati High Court's recent verdict stating that all the D-voters of the State should be detained in the detention camp during the trail, activities of various minority organizations, which were for many years in hibernation, seemed to accelerate. Significantly, cutting across the party lines Muslim heavyweight political leaders like Abdul Muhib Majumdar, the architect of the now-defunct IMDT, Sahidul AlomChoudhury of the AGP, Moulana Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiya, the AIUDF MLA,Hafiz Rashid Choudhury, who recently resigned from the post of AIUDF working president, assembled in the same platform here under the banner of Citizens Rights Preservation Committee to chalk out a blue print to fight the court verdict. The minority leaders agreed at challenging the High Court verdict in the Supreme Court. At the same time, they proposed to highlight the crisis the Bengali speaking people of the State had been facing for years after years in the national perspective. Muhib Majumder maintained that the D-voter crisis was basically a political issue as it started to haunt when the AGP was not in the power, meaning that the regional party used it as a tool to make a political comeback. Sahidul Alom, however, branded it as an administrative ploy to harass the Bengali speaking people. Hafiz Rashid,in his introductory speech, maintained that political differences should be kept aside. However he said, if any political party comes forward, it would definitely be welcomed.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader as well as the Silchar MP Kabindra Purkaysthahad reportedly told that they were also contemplating moving the Supreme Court in the issue. He however made it clear that as the nation was divided on the basis of two-nation theory, Muslims got their own country. But the Hindus were subjected to inhuman torture since independence.
