Lakhipuronline Digital Desk: Dr. Ngangom Bijoy Kumar Singh, a renowned former director of the Central Muga Eri Research & Training Institute, has been honored with a prestigious lifetime achievement award for his exceptional contributions to the growth and promotion of eri culture in India and beyond.
The award was presented by the president of the Zoological Society of India (ZSI) at the 35th All India Congress of Zoology and International Conference held at Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya. Dr. Singh’s dedication and expertise in eri culture have made him a global icon in the field.
Over his remarkable career spanning 35 years, Dr. Singh played a pivotal role in developing and researching eri culture. He collaborated with the Silk Board and instrumental in introducing and popularizing eri in various Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand.
His expertise extended internationally, with Dr. Singh serving as a Consultant for eri culture in Bolivia under the Japan International Development Organization Ltd (JAIDO). He prepared technical guidelines for farmers in Latin America to foster the development of eri culture.
Dr. Singh’s unwavering commitment to eri culture has earned him recognition and accolades. He is a fellow of ZSI and has been bestowed with the Dr. BS Chauhan gold medal. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the global eri culture landscape, inspiring and guiding future generations of researchers and practitioners.
Dr. Ngangom Bijoy Kumar Singh is the third son of Late Ngangom Binod Bihari and Late Ngangom Tombi Devi of Tolengram, Cachar, Assam. His dedication to eri culture has not only brought honor to his family but also to his home state and the entire country.
