SILCHAR, Dec 31: Jaipur-Kamrenga Gaon Panchayat in Lakhipur subdivision which falls under Udharbond constituency has been declared a smart GP by Cachar DC S Viswanathan, , during his recent visit to the rural areas. His objective was to make an assessment of the development of the once most neglected gaon panchayat.
It was to know the functioning of GP in particular and other departments under it that the DC made an on the spot appraisal. P P Deka, BDO of Rajabazar, accompanied the DC.
Viswanathan expressed his satisfaction to see the well-maintained football ground of the area, besides taking stock of the primary health centre at Jaipur and also the market shed. He at the same time visited the water supply scheme of PHE department and asked the SDO Megha Das to ensure that there was no wastage of drinking water and that the premises of the plant was kept neat and clean. On his itinerary was a round on Jaipur-Borthol Indira Gandhi Pukki Path which was opened to public on November 19 last.
As complaints often are aired from different areas, the Deputy Commissioner visited the NRC seva kendras to verify if the officials and staff engaged in verification process were sincerely discharging their responsibilities. He himself made a sample visits to some houses to know if the officials did visit them for verification. He expressed his satisfaction with their sincerity. There was however a discordant note when he came to the RCBP Higher Secondary School where he found heaps of garbage at the entrance and directed the BDO to clear them and initiate action against teachers who were expected to look after the hygienic aspect in the school premises.
The DC also took note of the functioning of ASEB unit there and made queries about the availability of power to the residents. There was no public complaint and he asked the SDO of the area Narendra Singha to see that there was no interruption in the supply of power.
