GUWAHATI, Sept 23: In order to ensure further expansion of Information Technology (IT) education and to make more and more students computer-savvy, the Assam Government has decided to provide laptops to students securing 50 per cent and above in the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and the Assam High Madrassa (AHM) examinations. Till this year, students securing 60 per cent and above were entitled to get laptops. Chief Minister Tarun madethis announcement at the Anundoram Barooah Award, 2011 function held at Sarusajai Sports complex on the outskirts of Guwahati today.
Delivering his speech at the gathering, State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the State Government would provide thrust on vocational education by starting a higher education mission with 100 per cent assistance from the government. He said that the StateGovernment would set up an Indian Institute of Information Technology in Guwahati in which more seats would be reserved for students of the State.
This year, as many as 19,450 first division holders in HSLC and AHM examinations are to get laptops. (SentinelAssam)
