Launching of village development programme

SILCHAR, Nov 28: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has launched its Village Development Programme (VDP) in Kurkuri Part IV village under Kalain Block, Cachar, yesterday, according to a press release. The programme was organized by Debabrata Das, District Development Manager, NABARD, Cachar in association with the nodal agency, Deshabandhu Club, Cachar. The programme was presided over by Pradip Das, teacher and AK Srivastava, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Assam Regional Office, Guwahati graced the occasion as the chief guest. It was attended among others by VK Bist, Assistant General Manager, NABARD, Guwahati, Lead District Manager, Cachar, Regional Manager & Senior Manager, AGVB, Cachar, Branch Manager, UBI & PNB, Kalain, BDO, ADO, Veterinary Extension Officer, Kalain, ZP, AP and GP members, NGOs, SHGs, and farmers. P Das, president on the occasion thanked NABARD for identifying the village and urged the people to make it a success. While launching the programme in the village, Chief General Manager, NABARD stressed for convergence of various developmental activities being undertaken by various entities such as Central and State Government departments, banks, NGOs, etc. in a synergistic manner. This would include economic development, infrastructure development and other aspects of human development like education, health, drinking water supply, etc. besides access to credit by way of financial inclusion. NABARD would coordinate, facilitate and provide financial support directly or through bank and government. The developmental activities will be implemented through people’s participation involving Gram Panchayats, SHGs, Farmers’ Club, farmers’ groups and other peoples’ organizations. Earlier, DDM, NABARD narrated in brief about the objective of Village Development Programme and urged the villagers to participate whole-heartedly in the developmental process. He indicated that the programme will be of three years duration and afterwards, it will be evaluated to measure the impact. Speaking on the occasion, AGM, NABARD stressed for holistic and integrated development so as to have socio-economic impact on the lives of the village community.
