SILCHAR, Jan 19: Manipuri Literary Festival – 2012 was organized by Manipuri Literary Society recently at YS Memorial High School, Khelma which was attended by a host of personalities from the academia and literary arena. With the inaugural session presided over by Haorongban Amarendra Singha, educationist and social worker and graced by M Kulachandra Singha as chief guest,besides being attended by O Nilkantha Singha, Kheiruddin Choudhury, Raghumani Singha and Jiten, the tone for the meet was set in.
Laishram Manglemba Singha delivered the key note address, highlighting the various activities of the Literary Society since its inception in 2000 and at the same time the objectives of the festival, besides sharing his experiences inbringing out the quarterly magazine 'Yenning'. The publication of 'Yenning' on the occasion of its 21st issue with literary, scientific, research, cultural and educational information came in for high appreciation by the members. In fact, the magazine was released atan earlier function by Justice RK Manisana Singh, former Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court. Dr M Santi Kumar Singh, Y Prenita Singha, Gulamjat Singh, RK Gopalsana and Irabot Singh among others praised the activities of Manipuri Literacy Society which all of them said "hasbeen working for the cause of Manipuri community. It was the opinion that a Manipuri daily should be brought out. Some of the articles in the magazine were appreciated for their contents, ideas and thoughts. The magazine on the whole was lauded for its standard and quality of texts.
The second session was for 'kabi sammelan' which was presided over by writer and poet Kheiruddin Choudhury. Those whoparticipated in the poetic session included Abdus Sahid Choudhury, Poulen Singh, O Nilkantha, S Bijendra, Bijit Kumar, N Rajen, Lili Singha and N Dhwaja. It was not only interesting but also entertaining. Each of them recited his or her composition. Around 100 delegates from different parts of Northeast attended the festival. The present issue of 'Yenning' wasdedicated to first Manipuri MBBS doctor and national award winnerDr A Surendra Kumar Singha who expired recently. (SentinelAssam)
