Lakhipuronline Digital Desk : The Manipuri community of Sonai is taking steps to ensure representation in the Assam Legislative Assembly in the 2026 elections. On Sunday, a meeting was held at a local residence in Sonai, where youth from various areas gathered to discuss their political stance. The meeting was presided over by W. Nilu Singha.

Prominent speakers at the event included Manikumar Singha, Lakhikanta Singha, Nandababu Singha, Ton Singha, and Sarat Singha, among others. They highlighted the absence of any Manipuri representative in Assam’s 126 Assembly constituencies over the years, which has contributed to the community’s socio-economic and political marginalization.

The speakers emphasized the importance of electing a Manipuri representative from the Sonai constituency in the 2026 elections. They urged the Congress party to nominate Dr. M. Shanti kumar Singha as its candidate, citing his leadership and influence within the community.

Representatives from 16 villages in Sonai participated in the meeting, unanimously supporting the call for Dr. Shanti kumar Singha’s candidacy. They appealed to the people of Sonai to back his nomination and ensure his victory in the upcoming elections.
