Meira Paibi seeks MP’s assistance

SILCHAR, Feb 19: Members of All Assam Manipuri Women Meira Paibi Coordination Committee (AAMWMPCC) led by its president, S Jayanti Devi, met Kabindra Purkayastha, BJP MP, here on Saturday and submitted a memorandum to him, seeking financial assistance for the construction of the central office building of the organization at Madurgram near Madhuraghat adjacent to airport road. In conversation with the MP that followed, Jayanti Devi explained to him the imperative need of accommodation for the organization, considering its immense social responsibility towards the community and the society in general.
Jayanti Devi said since the formation of the AAMWMPCC on December 12, 1994, it has been engaged in welfare activities, besides giving direction and dimension to the cause of human welfare and also in its crusade against various social evils, affecting life and society at large. It has also been working for the promotion of peace, harmony and solidarity among different sections of people. The crusade against drugs and alcoholic addictions is well known and has earned public kudus.
The members of the Committee make visits to various areas of the valley as well as other parts of the state in order to propagate its message and to involve more and more people in its movement. She added to say the Committee has been able to procure 18 kathas of land at the location specified above. The establishment of the central office of the AAMWMPCC at the strategic location, she pointed out, will facilitate not only its administrative business but also help in maintaining better coordination for effective results. The Committee members took the opportunity to demand Rs 10 lakh from his MP area development fund which would go a long way to achieve their desired goal.
Kabindra Purkayastha after going through the memorandum and having discussed the matter assured the AAMWMPCC of necessary financial assistance for the construction of the office building. Kanad Purkayastha, MP's nominee, who attended the annual conference of AAMWMPCC at Madurgram as chief-guest sometime back, also gave assurance for the necessary financial assistance. (SENTINELASSAM)
