SILCHAR, Sept 2: Both the warring factions of the ruling Congress in the trouble torn Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) had reportedly denied to compromise with the formula, proposed by the APCC and thus the stalemate did not seem to end so smoothly. APCC had reportedly proposed that Susmita Dev, who along with her deputy Vijendra Prasad Singh was removed from Chairperson’s post as seven of the Congress Ward Commissioners turned rebels by voting in favour of BJP’s no-confidence motion against the duo, would be reinstated, but the post of Vice Chairman would have to left to the rebel camps. Twelve Commissioners belonging to Susmita’s camp had outrightly rejected the proposal arguing that they would not share the treasury bench along with those who had, just a month back, raised their hands in support of the BJP. Ranjit Roy, the uncrowned leader of the rebel force, too made it clear in his closed circuit that in no case he would accept Susmita again as the boss. Against this backdrop, chances of some Ward Commissioners changing side was imminent. Sources said, the APCC was committed to make Susmita as the Chairperson again as they apprehended that otherwise a wrong signal would be sent to the public which might be detrimental for the party. Susmita reportedly found herself in a dilemma as she could neither violate APCC diktat nor could she afford to remove Vijendra, who had sacrificed a lot for her. Sources said, Urban Development Minister Dinesh Prasad Goala, who allegedly was instrumental in motivating the rebels, would reach Silchar on Friday and two APCC observers Chandan Sarkar and Manjusree Pathak would follow him on next Monday. Ball would be pushed to Goala’s court to announce the name of the vice president. But the Commissioners belonging to Susmita’s camp had reportedly told her that they would only accept a Board with her as the Chairperson and Vijendra as her deputy. (The Sentinel)
