SILCHAR, Sep 4: Rs 1 crore has been allotted for the repair and improvement of rural roads in each assembly constituency of Cachar district, an official source stated.

For the Dholai (SC) constituency, additional sum of Rs 2 crore and for Lakhipur Rs 1 crore have been allocated. This was revealed at a meeting of the Cachar district development committee held in the conference hall of the DC establishment presided over by Harendra Kumar Dev Mahanta, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, today.

Dev Mahanta directed that the improvement works of allthe rural roads should be completed within the time frame fixed. Along with that the progress of work on bridges under improvement should also be monitored andcompleted within the stipulated time.

Emphasis was laid on the appointment of necessary staff for the model hospitals of the district Health Department whose construction was completed, besides building up infrastructure for providing health services to the people. It was conveyed by the agriculture department that till date, Rs 15 crore worth kisan credit cards were distributed among the beneficiaries. It was also made known that till now, 5200 agriculture loans have been sanctioned, of which 3200 distributed.

For better traffic management, the PWD and NHAI division were directed to construct dividers on highways and roads.The Deputy Commissioner advisedthe PWD (R ) to take necessary steps for removing encroachers from their lands, standing as stumbling block in their works and for this thedepartment should submit written appeals within 10 days. It was decided at the meeting that 17.5 thousand low cost toilets should be provided to the BPL families.

DRDA and PHE would implement the scheme. Harendra Kumar Dev Mahantacalled upon the different State departments for proper monitoring and implementation of developmental works. The NIT Silchar has agreed to make arrangement for solar light for the DC establishment, it was stated. (SentinelAssam)
