SILCHAR, Jan 8: United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) announces the 2011 International Leaders in Education Programme (ILEP) for secondary-level classes IX to XII school teachers, teaching English, Social Sciences, Mathematics or Science at schools in the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Sikkim, Tripura and West Bengal. This competition is open only to teachers from the States as specified. In addition to teachers from India, this US Government sponsored programme will bring together teachers from East Asia and the Pacific, South and Central Asia, the Near East, and Sub-Saharan Africa to the United States for a five-month professional development programme from January 2012 and conclude in May 2012 that will further develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States.
The US-based academic programme will include course work and intensive training in teaching methodologies, lesson planning, teaching strategies, teacher leadership as well as the use of computers for internet, word processing and as tools for teaching. It will also include an internship at a US secondary school to engage participants with US teachers and students.
ILEP programme alumni are eligible to apply for small grants while returning to their home. These grants can provide resources to conduct teacher training workshops or other activities that share the teachers’ experiences in the US and contribute to the growth of their home education communities.
Selected Indian teachers will receive round trip transportation, room and board and applicable allowances and will travel on J 1 visas.
