Silchar, June 7: On the occasion of World Environment Day, T T Daulagopu, SDO, Lakhipur (Civil), along with Pradip Kumar Gupta, circle officer, and other bureaucrats organized a tree plantation programme. The saplings have been planted in the Lakhipur municipal complex and other areas of the town under the sub-division in Cachar. The main motive of the programme is to create awareness among general public about the environment issues and to encourage them to protect nature.
Rajdip Goala, MLA, Rimi Paul, Lakhipur municipal chairperson, D D Kalita, Lakhipur SDPO, and L Kabung, child development officer, Binnakandi, were among the people who were present on the occasion. The programme was observed with great enthusiasm by the people of Lakhipur.
Rajdip Goala said that it is the duty of common people to take care of these saplings which have been planted. He also stressed on the importance of the environment day and said that plantation of trees help in maintaining the ecological balance of the planet.
A total of around 10,000 saplings were planted in Lakhipur, Binnakandi and Bashkandi areas on the occasion. The saplings were sourced through the office of Debashish Chakroborty, ranger, forest department. On the occasion the 27 Assam Rifles also organized a plantation drive in Dewan Tea Garden High School of the the tea estate. (Source:SentinelAssam)
