SILCHAR, Sept 2: On the order of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Harendra Kumar Dev Mahanta, the passenger buses under the banner of ASTC shifted their services from the flag station located in the heart of this town to the Inter State Bus Terminal at Ramnagar, 5 km away. The directive of the Deputy Commissioner to the buses was issued, considering the increase in the volume of vehicular traffic and their movement in the town area, causing heavy jam and congestion. Accordingly the buses started their services from the ISBT, much to the inconvenience of commuting public of short and long distance destinations. It was on August 11 that the bus owners moved to the ISBT.
But this order was challengedthrough a writ petition by State Transport Workers' Association, represented by the general secretary in the Gauhati High Court. The High Court in its interim order directed that since the ASTC has its own parking place, better known as flag station, all the buses under ASTC, besides those of ASTC, could as usual operate from here. The interim order was given on August 29 and accordingly the State Transport Workers Association has decided to operate their services from the flag station from today. (SentinelAssam)
