Lakhipuronline Digital Desk : On December 10, 2024, the All Assam Manipuri Christian Association (AAMCA) submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India, appealing for urgent intervention in the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The memorandum, submitted through the Co-District Commissioner of Lakhipur, Cachar, Assam, highlighted the escalating humanitarian crisis and called for immediate measures to restore peace.
The association expressed grave concern over the significant loss of life, displacement of thousands, and widespread destruction of property in the conflict. According to their statement, over 250 individuals have lost their lives, and countless families have been displaced, creating a severe humanitarian emergency.
Key Appeals in the Memorandum:
1. Restoration of Law and Order: Deployment of additional security forces to curb violence and ensure civilian safety.
2. Facilitating Dialogue: Initiating mediated discussions involving community leaders, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to address underlying issues.
3. Humanitarian Aid: Providing immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation for affected families.
4. Promoting Social Integration: Addressing root causes such as land disputes, economic inequalities, and historical grievances to foster harmony.
The memorandum was signed by Elder N. Rajkumar Singha, President of AAMCA, and Dr. H. Nirendra Singha, General Secretary of AAMCA, who emphasized the critical need for immediate action. Copies of the memorandum were also sent to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
The association concluded by expressing hope that with timely intervention, Manipur could overcome the divisions and work towards a peaceful and prosperous future.
