Imphal, September 22 : The four blind persons who have been selected as primary teachers by the DPC held in 2006 are eligible to be teachers under the law says Handicapped Development Foundation.
Addressing the media at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today, the President of the Handicapped Development Foundation (HDF), S Jashobanta said that according to the Persons with Disability Act, blind persons have the right to be recruited under the teaching profession.
He further said that a number of blind persons are employed as teachers in Guwahati. The four blind persons selected as teachers are definitely eligible to be teachers as per law of the country. The Union Mimistry in 1977 has approved for providing reservation for the disable.
He appeals to all the organizationsworking in concern with the disables of the state need work together to uplift the disable community at par with the general population.(
