Born in 1928 in Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Imphal East, Manipur, Shri Oinam Biramangol Singh was initiated into Manipuri proscenium theatre as a child by Sairem Kanya Devi, one of the leading Manipuri actresses of her time. In 1948, he joined Raja Dumbra Singh theatre of Wangkhei Angom Leikai, and later joined the Aryan Theatre. During his stage career, he acted in more than one hundred and fifty plays. He is most remembered for his portrayal of some major characters such as Karna, Tikendrajit, and Chingu Khongnangthaba. He has had a long association with All India Radio, where he worked as an announcer and artist. He has been associated with several theatrical organizations as President, including the Rupmahal Theatre. Shri Biramangol Singh has been honoured for his work by various organizations including the Manipur State Kala Akademi. Shri Oinam Biramangol Singh receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Indian theatre as an actor.
